Seeing Through God’s Eyes: Choosing Mercy Over Judgment

Seeing Through God’s Eyes: Choosing Mercy Over Judgment

By Colleeno Chippy

Every day we wake up with a choice. We can look at the world through the lens of our emotions, or we can look at it through the eyes of God. Those two views are rarely the same.

Human eyes are quick to judge. We remember what people did. We hold on to how they made us feel. We keep mental records of wrongs, disappointments, and moments when others fell short of our expectations. But God doesn’t operate like that. He looks deeper than behavior. He sees hearts, wounds, histories, and possibilities.

That is why the affirmation for today is so powerful:

Lord, help me to see people the way You see them. Teach me to choose mercy over judgment and love over pride.

This prayer is not just gentle words. It is a challenge to our character.

Choosing mercy is not easy. Judgment feels natural. When someone hurts us, disappoints us, or misunderstands us, the first instinct is to harden our hearts. But God keeps reminding us that we, too, live daily under His grace.

Think about how many times you have needed forgiveness. How many times you’ve needed understanding. How many seasons you were not at your best, yet God still loved you through them. The same grace you depend on is the grace He calls you to give.

Seeing people the way God sees them means learning to pause before reacting. It means remembering that every person you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. It means realizing that broken people often break people, and that compassion can heal what criticism never will.

Pride tells us to stand tall in our hurt. Love tells us to kneel in humility.

Today, someone in your life may need the mercy you are hesitant to give. It might be a family member who keeps getting it wrong. A friend who disappointed you. A stranger who was rude. A partner who doesn’t yet know how to love you properly. God is asking you to rise above your feelings and respond with His heart.

Mercy does not mean excusing bad behavior. It means refusing to let bitterness control your spirit.

When you choose love over pride, you set yourself free. You stop carrying the heavy burden of resentment. You begin to walk lighter, breathe easier, and live softer. You begin to reflect God in a world that desperately needs to see Him.

So today, make this personal. Ask God to help you see beyond attitudes and actions. Ask Him for patience where you would normally be angry. Ask Him for understanding where you would normally judge.

The way you treat people is a testimony.

Let your life be proof that mercy still exists.

Let your words be gentle.

Let your heart be open.

Let your spirit be kind.

Someone out there needs this message today. And that someone might even be you.
