What Does This Season Mean to You? A Season of Joy and Love
By Colleeno Chippy
The holiday season often brings a unique blend of emotions—joy, love, reflection, and even bittersweet memories. It’s a time when we gather with loved ones, celebrate milestones, and create memories that warm our hearts. But this season also carries deeper significance, especially when it becomes a time to honor and cherish those who are no longer with us.
Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending my nephew’s 11th birthday party. It was a joyful occasion filled with laughter, love, and togetherness. Yet, it was also his first birthday without his mom—my beloved sister, who we lost far too soon. Despite the pain of her absence, the day was a testament to the strength of family and the importance of showing up for one another.
A Season of Togetherness
For me, this season is about being present with those who matter most. It’s about setting aside our busy schedules and making time to connect, whether it’s through celebrations, shared meals, or even a quiet conversation. Yesterday reminded me how powerful these moments can be.
As we gathered around my nephew, every hug, smile, and kind word seemed to carry extra weight. We weren’t just celebrating a birthday; we were reminding him that he’s surrounded by love, even in the absence of his mother.
Finding Joy Amidst Loss
Loss has a way of shaping how we view the holidays. It teaches us to appreciate the moments we have and the people who fill them. My nephew’s party was a bittersweet reminder of this. While we deeply missed my sister, we also celebrated her legacy—the love she poured into her son and the memories she left behind.
It’s not always easy to find joy when someone is missing, but the beauty of this season is its ability to bring healing. We can honor our loved ones by carrying their light forward, sharing their stories, and creating new traditions in their memory.
What This Season Means to Me
This season, more than anything, is about:
• Gratitude: For the moments we have and the people who make them meaningful.
• Love: Showing up for one another, especially when it’s needed most.
• Legacy: Honoring those who’ve passed by continuing to nurture the bonds they helped create.
• Hope: Believing in the resilience of the human spirit and the promise of brighter days ahead.
For my nephew, yesterday was a day filled with joy. It was a reminder that even in the face of loss, life continues, and it can still be beautiful.
