The Gift of One More Day

The Gift of One More Day

By Colleeno Chippy

This morning, my heart cracked open.

A dear friend of mine—someone who was here just yesterday—took her last breath today. No warning. No time to prepare. She simply wasn’t responding this morning, and by the time they got her to the hospital, she was gone. And just like that, the air shifted. Life felt… thinner.

There’s something about sudden loss that reminds us of what really matters. It pulls everything into sharp focus. The petty complaints, the delays, the things we were stressing over—they all shrink in the shadow of death. And yet, this is not a blog about grief. This is a blog about life.

Because even as my heart hurts, I can’t help but feel gratitude.

The breath in your lungs is a blessing.

The fact that you opened your eyes today is a miracle.

The ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, feel—it’s all evidence that you still have purpose.

We often wait until the big things fall into place to feel grateful. But what about the small things that carry us through the day? The cool breeze, a laugh from your child, a quiet moment of peace, the smell of breakfast cooking, or just the light pouring in through your window. Those are not little things. Those are lifelines.

I don’t know what you’re going through right now. Maybe you feel stuck. Maybe your dreams feel delayed. Maybe your heart is heavy. But I came to remind you:

As long as you’re breathing, there’s still hope.

You can rebuild.

You can start again.

You can walk away.

You can heal.

You can laugh again.

You can become the person you’re still dreaming of being.

Today, I paused everything to write this because it couldn’t wait.

Some of us have been complaining through a miracle.

We’re alive, and that’s no small thing.

So please—don’t let your blessings become background noise.

Don’t wait for loss to remind you of what you still have.

Look around and speak gratitude.

You have the gift of one more day.

Take it seriously.

Take it joyfully.

Take it prayerfully.

Final thoughts:

If today is the only day you have, what will you do with it?

Whose life will you touch?

What will you stop putting off?

You are here. That’s more than enough reason to give thanks.

Breathe deep. Love hard. Live intentionally.
